■ Part 1: New Year's Shrine Visit
Meet at Kanda Myojin Shrine at 6:00 PM for the New Year's shrine visit. Detailed meeting location will be sent separately.
One of the deities enshrined at Kanda Myojin, Tokyo's guardian shrine, is Lord Taira no Masakado.
He is venerated as a guardian of the Kanto region, honoured for his strength and pioneering role as a warrior (“tsuwamono”) who spearheaded political reforms in Kanto and risked his life to protect the people.
And Mr. Soma Yukitane is his descendant. While quite distant from Lord Masakado,
he's like a grandson, so visiting Kanda Shrine with a descendant might just be the ultimate way to ward off misfortune?? That's the idea.
※ If you can't make Part 1, joining from Part 2 is also OK.
■ Part 2: Soma New Year's Party
What makes this area fascinating is how elements that normally wouldn't coexist naturally blend together: a feudal lord, rocket launches, space conferences, five sake breweries within a small town, the traditional Nomaoi horse chase, being an area affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, a thriving equestrian culture, various ventures establishing headquarters or branches, and diverse crops being grown...
This New Year's party is all about fully immersing yourself in that atmosphere, attracting participants from all walks of life. We want you to truly enjoy this sense of diversity!
■ New Year's Cuisine by Atsuko Koori! (From Minamisoma City)
This time, we'll pound mochi using a mochi-making machine, prepare zōni soup, and celebrate the new year with a focus on Soma's local cuisine. Let's enjoy a traditional New Year's celebration.
Ms. Atsuko Koori's Background
Born in Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture. After graduating junior college, she worked in restaurants and medical institutions before joining Smiles Inc. in 2004, the company behind “Soup Stock Tokyo.”
She was involved in developing most of Soup Stock Tokyo's menus and product development for the company's entire food service operations.
